Jinri Toutiao, one of China’s most popular news apps’, has released its 2016 performance report revealing it has more than 700 million users daily active users.
The app ranked higher than Tencent News in Q1 2017 for weekly active users (WAU) and is predominantly used by China’s lucrative audience of men aged 18 – 30 years old.
While total page views of the site grew 220% year-on-year in 2016 to 2.7bn, video views have also exploded growing by 605% to 1.269bn in December 2016.
Jinri Toutiao has embraced video formats due to the cost effectiveness of the format and the huge consumption appetite.
Jinri Toutiao has also successfully integrated commercial objectives within the site with the launch of Toutiao Hao, which are official accounts on the app that enable brands and companies to connect with consumers.
The accounts, which are similar to WeChat Official Accounts, allow companies to share content with users and create engagement. It also provides marketers with opportunities to develop partnerships with the app and create advertising and marketing deals.
