The Asia New Zealand Foundation invites commerce students with a major or minor in marketing, advertising or communications, who will be completing their degree by November 2018, to apply for an experiential learning opportunity at United Media Solution (known as “UMS”) in China. The programme will run from mid-September until mid-December. The student will be placed in UMS office’s in Auckland for four weeks and in its Shanghai office for eight weeks.
Young professionals with several years’ relevant experience will also be considered for this opportunity.
The student will be given a specific project or meaningful work to do and a mentoring supervisor will be assigned to monitor the student’s professional development at UMS.
About the opportunity

The successful applicants will gain experience related to marketing support for UMS’s international clients’ products in China. The student will join a team engaged in managing social media campaigns for a variety of New Zealand clients.

How are the costs covered?
The programme will cover the cost of return airfares to Shanghai/NZ, travel insurance, accommodation and commuting to and from UMS office in Shanghai.
In China, the student will be expected to contribute NZ$500 towards his/her living expenses. During the student’s time at UMS’s Auckland office, they will be required to cover all costs related to living in Auckland and commuting to the office.
Eligibility
Applicants must be:
- New Zealand citizens or permanent residents
- in good health
- due to complete at least two years of tertiary study by November 2017
- returning to New Zealand in 2018 to continue tertiary studies
- adaptable, mature, reliable and resilient
- interested in pursuing a career involving China and the wider Asian region.
Young professionals with several years’ experience in the workforce will also be considered for this opportunity.
While the ability to speak Chinese would be an advantage, it is not a prerequisite as English is widely spoken in the Auckland and Shanghai offices. Ideal candidates will have an interest in the China’s language and culture, and aspire to develop their capacity for working in cross-cultural environments.
